JUNE 2006

10 Camp 4 Coffee Cart to Cart Run. An early season long training run from Crested Butte to Crested Butte South. The distance is about 15 miles. The start will be at Camp 4 Coffee at 4th and Elk and the finish at Camp 4 Coffee in CB South. Transport back to Crested Butte will be provided. 970-349-1185
21 Iron Chef of Crested Butte Center for the Arts - doors open at 5:45. With only 60 minutes to complete at least three dishes successfully incorporating the secret ingredient, each chef’s versatility and agility will be put to the test. Whose cuisine reigns supreme? Enjoy hors d’oeuvres provided by several local restaurants.
19-25 Fat Tire Bike Week - 26th year!
The country's longest running mountain bike festival returns for its' 26th year. Featuring guided tours for all ages and abilities, clinics, bike rodeo, observed trials, Mtn Bike Hall of Fame Museum, the Chainless Race and the NORBA-sanctioned Wildflower Rush races (part of the Mountain States Cup). 800-545-4505
21 Lifts open for the summer at Crested Butte Mountain Resort
Available for summer hikers and bikers. The Silver Queen lift takes hikers just below the summit at 11,400 feet. From there, you can climb to the 12,162-foot Mt. Crested Butte peak, stop for a picnic or simply take in the spectacular views of the Elk Mountains. The Red Lady Express lift transports hikers and mountain bikers. From rolling single-track to more advanced technical terrain, Crested Butte Mountain offers miles of summer trails to entice bikers of all abilities and ages.
24-25 The Wildflower Rush (Cross Country and Downhill Mountain Bike Race) The exhilarating Wildflower Rush Cross Country Mountain Biking Race will delight riders with a 9-mile mountain circuit winding around and over the Mt. Crested Butte ski hill through waist high wildflowers and fun singletrack. This is a NORBA sanctioned race.

1-31 Crested Butte Music Festival This dynamic festival regularly hosts internationally renowned musicians from major orchestras across the country, vocal artists from the Metropolitan Opera, dancers from the Kansas City Ballet, and nationally recognized poets to perform at the festival each summer. 2 Annual Black and White Ball benefiting the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum. A fun event with live music, dancing in the streets... and don't forget to wear your black and white!
3 Alpenglow Concert - Fun for everyone! A weekly concert series taking place every Monday, 5:30pm at the outdoor Center For The Arts stage.
4 Annual 4th of July Celebration. The day begins with a Pancake breakfast at the Fire Station - next an annual 4th of July Parade marching down Elk Avenue through downtown Crested Butte, followed by a Log Saw Competition, Kids Games, and live music. A food court is open throughout the day offering a variety of foods and drinks. The day is topped off by a fireworks show at dusk (weather permitting).
4 Annual Gothic to Crested Butte 1/3 Marathon
An 8.56 mile fun run from the historic mining town of Gothic to Crested Butte. Proceeds benefit the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory, a private, non-profit, high-altitude field station for research and education.

10-16 Wildflower Festival
This annual event celebrates Crested Butte's designation as "The Wildflower Capital of Colorado." The festival features daily hikes, art and photography classes, cooking classes, garden tours and nightly lectures. Crested Butte Wildflower Festival

26-27 Crested Butte Land Trust’s Annual Caddis Cup Fly-Fishing Tournament  Event to raise funds for preserving open space in the Gunnison Valley. A casting clinic, BBQ at the beautiful Cement Creek Ranch. During the evening we will match participants with famous local guides. This will give you the opportunity to strategically locate your secret fishing spots for the fishing tournament. On Thursday you and your guide will enjoy a day of fishing followed by an awards party and fish tale contest. (970) 349-1206
27 Annual Crested Butte Academy Tipi Party and Art Auction
Approximately 20 authentic Ute tipis will grace Crested Butte’s Town Ranch, with the 12,200-foot Mt. Crested Butte as a backdrop. Each tipi is beautifully set for eight – 24 guests, with surf and turf and other gourmet delicacies served by local chefs. Dinner begins at 6:00pm. Tickets are $200.

30 Crested Butte Triathalon    A Nissan Xterra Points Series Race, off road triathlon. Competitors will first swim 1 kilometer in Grant Lake, then they will jump on their mountain bikes and ride approximately 24 kilometers of Crested Butte single track and county road including the Upper Loop, Upper Upper Loop, and Strand Hill. After the ride they will embark on a 9 kilometer run. www.westelktri.com

5-6 Arts Festival
This Popular Annual Event features fine artists and craft-persons in the following media: metal, wood, sculpture, clay, fabric, mixed media, fine arts, jewelry, photography, wearable arts, leather, glass, floral, paper and baskets. 6-7 Annual Crested Butte Open Dinner, Auction & Golf Tournament     A fund-raiser for the Adaptive Sports Center of Crested Butte, a year-round program that provides outdoor recreation to people with disabilities. The Club at Crested Butte and its Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course hosts this celebrity tournament. A horse race, event golf shirt, gift bag, scramble golf tournament, cocktail party, western BBQ dinner, dance, live art and travel auction round out the weekend’s festivities. SEPTEMBER 2006

2 Paragon People's Fair Sponsored by the Paragon Gallery, a local artist’s co-op. It is open to all vendors, big, or small, including flea market items. In the past the fair has featured booths with jewelry, framed local photography, water color paintings, sculpture, antiques, clothing, pottery and of course the streets are filled with local food vendors and music. 10-11 18th Annual Wooden Nickel Fall Golf Classic (benefits the Crested Butte Academy)
16-17 Pearl Pass Mountain Bike Tour to Aspen (and back) The oldest mountain bike event in the world crosses over the 12,700 ft. Pearl Pass on Saturday and returns to Crested Butte via Taylor and Star Passes on Sunday. Saturday's route is 38 miles, Sunday's ride is longer. The tour is loosely guided, with many stops to re-group along the way. (800) 454-4505
21-23 Vinitok Food Faire    Parade and bonfire to celebrate the fall harvest. Vinotok, a storytelling festival with ancient roots, is a long-standing annual event in Crested Butte. A celebration of sorts, that takes place on the autumnal equinox, which is the Pagan rite of Thanksgiving, also known as “Harvest Home” or Mabon. It’s a celebration for the abundance of harvest, a time meant for us to give thanks through song, dance and feasts. It’s a time when Crested Buttians say goodbye to the old and bring in the new through storytelling. Call (800) 545-4505 for details.
