CRESTED BUTTE MOUNTAIN RESORT BREAKS GROUND ON MOUNTAINEER SQUARE
Crested Butte, CO--Under Colorado's sunny blue skies, Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) owners, Tim and Diane Mueller, accompanied by local dignitaries, officially broke ground on Mountaineer Square on Wednesday, July 27, 2005.
"Mountaineer Square is the first step in the evolution and revitalization of Mt. Crested Butte and CBMR. We (CBMR and Mt. Crested Butte) are working toward the creation of a successful and sustainable resort," said Tim Mueller.
Mountaineer Square, formerly referred to as the "Town Center", will be the new base area village. With an estimated cost of more than $200 million, CBMR and the Town of Mt. Crested Butte will partner in this unique project, working closely with the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), an elected board that has tax increment power.
The first phase of the project will include lodging units, state-of-the-art convention facilities for groups up to 500, a new transportation center, unique resort retail boutiques, specialty restaurants and spa facilities. A new transit loop for the Mountain Express buses and underground parking are also included in the plans.
Allen Cox, a resident of Mt. Crested Butte for 36 years, the owner of the Nordic Inn, local dignitary and Chairperson of the DDA summed up this monumental occasion, " I've been waiting 36 years for this!"
