NASJA RETURNS TO CRESTED BUTTE

March 28 to April 1, 2007

MT. CRESTED BUTTE, CO--The itinerary for the North American Snowsports Journalists Association (NASJA) members over the last 15 years has wound through seven states and three Canadian provinces, crisscrossing North America and crossing the international boundary five times. And we're right back where we were in 1992.

Colorado remains NASJA's favorite state, if you consider we have held our annual meeting here 11 times, most of any state or province.

And Crested Butte remains one of NASJA's favorite venues for our annual general membership meeting.

Ask a veteran member and he'll have stories about that 1992 meeting. Or maybe he'll pull out the souvenir ski parka he received at that meeting and wear it to remind you of our sense of colors back in the day-glow era. Right, Mr. Naye?

Maybe our affection for Crested Butte stems from the heritage of a resort that has long understood the value of a strong relationship between media and mountain. For that remains the essence of NASJA, the bond between those who write, photograph and record the stories of winter snow sports, and those we write about.

It's a heritage that can be traced to the onetime Crested Butte marketing director who is remembered with the annual presentation of the Bob Gillen Memorial Award. Gillen's onetime protégé and partner and current Crested Butte Vice President Gina Kroft was the first recipient of the Gillen Award in 2002 and is one of the movers and shakers behind our return to this special place.

But we're also here because there's a major story unfolding in southwestern Colorado, that of the Mueller Family bringing its ski resort expertise from the east and making a mark on Colorado Ski Country.

We're here to celebrate the rebirth of Crested Butte as a major player on the international skiing stage, and to record the triumphs that will mark that achievement.

It may have been 15 calendar years since NASJA was last in Crested Butte, but judging from the hospitality, it's as if we never left.
